Hi there! We hope this profile will give you a glimpse of who we are--from our serious to fun sides--and insight into the kind of parents we would be to a child. We admire the courage, strength and love you have for your child and can't imagine the immense amount of emotions you may be navigating as you consider the options ahead of you. We know it must be an overwhelming process to look though someone's profile and wonder if it could be a good fit for your child.
We met in 2012 when we were working on a professional project together. We describe it as "the fireworks were already there." Two years later, in 2014, we met again at a professional brunch and struck up a conversation. We then started dating shortly thereafter. We were married in 2017 at New York City Hall with two witnesses who are dear friends. After, we also gathered and celebrated our marriage with family in Key West. We are extremely committed to one another, spend the majority of our time together, and remain hopeful to build a family together soon.
When we first started to talk about growing a family, the possibility of adoption was something we were very interested in. After trying to conceive biologically, we knew that we were meant to build a family through adoption. One of my (Marie) closest friends was adopted and she now works as an adoption caseworker in Brazil. In addition, one of my dearest colleagues, and one of Jesus's closest friends, have children who are adopted. We have a great community and support system from those in the adoption community.
I am about 5 feet 4 inches with brown eyes and long curly hair. I enjoy movies and love contemplating the horizon. I am generally considered "serious," but as Jesus knows, I often spontaneously break into dance and enjoy spending time with children. Following them in their imagination is facinating... maybe that's the teacher in me. I am originally from Florida, but I grew up in Texas and graduated first in my high school class. I am very proud of my Cuban heritage. Because of my long curly hair, people will often say that I look like actress Andy McDowell or singer Gloria Estefan. Nowadays, I change up my hair often! I am an educator with a passion for art and culture. I won the "International Teacher of the Year" award and have published many articles and books on cultural history. I absolutely love what I do with my profession. Outside of my work, I also love to read novels and participate in other cultural activities. I enjoy exercising and traveling to various cultural and religious sites. In Jesus's words: Marie is the perfect partner because she always makes me feel loved. Because of her noble feelings, emotional honesty, generosity, impeccable ethics, moral standards, keen sensibility, intelligence and presence, she reminds me every day of our wonderful life together. I am the luckiest person on the planet. I could live four more lives and she will always give me reasons to enjoy life.
I am 5 feet 7 inches with dark brown eyes and grey hair (of course, it used to be dark brown!) My favorite place to be is in a museum, and my favorite film so far is the sci-fi thriller "Blade Runner." I very much enjoy listening to the music band "Air." I am dedicated to my work and I am also shy. In terms of saying something silly about myself, Marie always laughs at how fast I walk in airport terminals. I grew up in South America and also graduated first in my high school class. I am a consultant and have worked with cultural enterprises for more than 25 years. I have served as the director of important foundations both in the United States and in South America. In the early 1990s, I attended a prestigious museum studies program in New York. I thoroughly enjoy organizing cultural programs for different communities and working with foundations and companies to achieve this goal. I love to go to the movies and attend sporting events, especially baseball. When we went to an Astros game, our nephews were impressed to learn that I was from the same country as their favorite player on the team. I also enjoy exercise and going for long, relaxing walks with Marie after dinner. It's important to me to take in the little things in life. In Marie's words: Jesus is a true gentleman: kind, generous, and loving. He is a wonderful husband with a commitment to our marriage, a sense of shared responsibility, and, above all, a profound sense of love.
We live in a two-story house with a lovely garden located in a quaint neighborhood in Florida. The house is 2,000 square feet with a living room, kitchen, dining room, home office, three bedrooms and three bathrooms. There are many children in the area and the neighborhood has great amenities. We have a park with a playground only one block away, as well as great daycares, schools, and medical facilities all close by. Our back yard is waiting for the right moment to set up an inflatable slip-n-slide.
Why We Are Unique
Beyond the unbounded love we will give to the child who becomes a member of our family, we bring a depth of knowledge and experiences because of our creative sides and high level of education. Due to our ethnic and religious backgrounds, as well as our extensive travels, we have been able to meet many different people who have taught us how to enrich our lives and those of others. We feel confident of the love we can give and how to provide the tools for a child to grow and to engage with the world!
We regularly visit Jesus's family and also invite them to our home. Jesus's father and second wife are very close to us (Jesus's biological mother died 8 years ago). We are also very close to his two sisters and their children, our nephew and niece. Our nephew recently celebrated getting married to our newest neice-in-law. We also joined his family in Spain on trips that included our lovely and energy-filled niece. We very much enjoy our family gatherings and any opportunity to share moments and memories together. We frequently visit and vacation with Marie's parents and her brother's family, which includes our two nephews. We enjoy various activities with our nephews, whether it is going to Sea World and petting a dolphin or exploring an exhibit at a natural history museum. We are also very close to Marie's grandmother (age 95) and great aunt (age 93). We celebrate life with them by taking them out to dinner or on a boat tour and enjoying the relaxing, quiet moments.
In addition to our family, we spend quality time with our close friends and their wonderful children. We love to host dinners for our friends. When we do so, Marie likes to set the table and decorate for the special meal; Jesus prefers to cook. We value our friends and their children, and we serve as additional support and sources of love for them. They are amazing!
Goodbye For Now
Since our time is coming to a close, we want to share a few final thoughts with you. If you choose to pursue an adoption plan with us, we promise to honor and respect your relationship to your child through open discussions, a life-book, and talking about you and your family regularly. We believe it's important to discuss adoption with a child from an early age and we're comfortable with whatever level of openness you'd like to have and what is best for the child, whether it be exchanging photos, phone calls, emails, or visits. We want you to know that we think you are an incredible human being and pray you feel peace in whatever your final decision may be.
