About Us

'About Us' Image

Jake and I met in December of 2005 through a mutual friend. We got married in December of 2006. We were married for almost 9 years before we decided to start a family. Our son, Rex was born in January of 2015. We absolutely love being parents. It is the most challenging, yet rewarding thing we have ever done and we feel so fortunate to be on the journey together. We have two parenting philosophies. The first is "Let them be little" and the second is "Work hard, learn a lot, and be humble and kind". We believe in letting kids play in the mud, eat an occasional ice cream, and watch cartoons on Saturday mornings. We also believe in routine, responsibility, education, and respect for others. We think that we have found a good balance of letting a kid just be a kid along with plenty of structure and discipline. At the end of the day, we just want to raise thoughtful, empathetic, and hardworking people.

We believe that our children will learn how to treat others from watching how Jake and I treat each other. For this reason, we take the time to keep our marriage strong and healthy. We speak to each other with genuine kindness and respect. We think of ourselves as a team and always come to an agreement, especially when it comes to parenting.

Meet Jake (by Sam)

Jake is a county road and bridge inspector. He is currently taking classes online to finish up his degree in Construction Management which will help him progress within his field. Jake's work ethic is truly amazing. He is an excellent role model for our son.

Jake really is the bees knees when it comes to being my spouse. He is my partner, my better half, and my best friend. He supports all of my ambitions (and most of my pinterest projects) and yet still keeps me grounded. He knows exactly how to make me laugh after a long day at work. He is patient and kind to others. Jake is the guy that everyone wants to be friends with. He's the guy you call when you need help because you know you can count on him. He is incredibly selfless.

I have always loved Jake. From day one I just knew he was the one for me. But that day that I saw him become a father was another level of love. I didn't think it was possible to love him more, yet I did. And watching him grow as a father these last 3 years has made me love him more.

Fun Facts About Jake:

*The only condiment he likes is BBQ sauce (so weird, right?!)

*Was a cross-country runner in high school

*Served in the Air Force for 6 years as a carpenter

*He can kill even the scariest spiders

*Favorite junk food: Sour Patch Kids

Sam has been an Inflight Refueler on the KC-135 in the Air Force since 2005. She was recently promoted to the rank of Master Sergeant (E-7). Sam is currently working on her BA in Business Leadership in order to be a better supervisor to her troops. Sam enjoys training for half-marathons, hiking, and riding her motorcycle. She never backs down from a challenge and enjoys stepping outside of her comfort zone.

When Sam and I got married at 20-years old, people told us that we were too young. Eleven years later and she is still the love of my life. Sam is motivated, challenged, and has taught me so much in our relationship. I am the man I am today because of her. Sam is my best friend, partner, spouse, and soulmate. My feelings grew ten-fold the first time I saw her with our son, Rex. Sam is a nurturing, creative, and loving mother who is a bright spot in every room that she is in. I know that Sam was meant to do two things in her life: to be my wife and be a mother to our children.

Fun Facts About Sam

*Can cook a mean pot of crawfish.

*Has 4000 hours of flight time in the KC135

*Hiked Pikes Peak

*Ran seven half-marathons

*Has a recipe for sangria that she perfected in Spain

Rex is a pretty typical 3 year old kid. He loves cars, trucks, trains, and planes! He likes to help Mom in the garden and Dad work on the motorcycles. He's very thoughtful and loves to help others. He has a great sense of humor and is incredibly smart. He is going to be a great big brother!

Our Pets

Our fur babies are Rory, our black lab, and Jackson, our orange Tabby. They are both very loving, gentle animals and are great with kids. Rory is training Rex to throw her ball regularly and Jackson is training him to respect lazy cat-nappin' time

Friends Are Family You Get To Choose

The Air Force moves us to a new base about every 5 years. At first, it was tough being away from relatives. Thankfully, we have made some of the most amazing friends over the years and become very close with them. We love our Air Force friends dearly and consider them family. It brings us a lot of comfort to know that we always have them to rely on when we are so far from "home".

Home Is Where I Am With You

Life on an Air Force base is not that different from any other small community, except that we get a bugle wake-up call at 7:00 am each weekday morning Our neighborhood is full of children. We know all of our neighbors personally and consider them friends that we can count on. There are numerous parks within walking distance of the house and there is also a base pool with a killer water slide! We have a great library and plenty of events for families almost every weekend. The running trails are all stroller-friendly and we can hop on one of them just behind our back yard. We even have our own bowling alley that we love to visit with friends and family.
