Thank you for taking the time to read our profile. We hope you will be able to see our love for each other, our family, and for our lives together. We have an abundance of love to share with our future child.
We both know many people whose lives have been blessed by adoption. Amy herself was adopted as an infant from Korea.
We took some time after our marriage to enjoy being a couple. After a struggle with infertility, we became foster parents for two sets of wonderful, loving children. We journeyed with these five children through the transition from the lowest point in their lives to ultimate placement with their forever families. Now we believe it is God's plan for us to be forever parents.
We were both raised in sunny southern California. Our parents went to the same church when we were young. Later, Amy's family started attending a church with a more active youth group. Shawn's family moved out of town only to return several years later. Shawn spent his youth backpacking and cycling through the Sierra Mountains with the Boy Scouts and church youth. Amy played trumpet in marching band and camped all over America with her family. We met up again after Amy graduated from college. We both had joined the same church our parents had attended when were children. Long talks after church turned to friendship, which turned to late night dates, and then turned into love. We were married a few years later and move to Texas shortly after that.
Shawn has a Bachelors Degree in History. He currently works for a large Data and Analytics company. He is a leader at a local church and works with the Boy Scouts. He enjoys reading, playing board games, cooking and traveling. He stays young by taking long walks and practicing European sword fighting.
Amy has a Bachelors degree in English. She works for a large mortgage servicing company. She volunteers with the children at the church by working in the nursery, teaching Sunday school, and helping out during Vacation Bible School. She enjoys reading, watching movies, going to museums, traveling, and hanging out with family and friends. She goes for long walks, and goes to the gym to stay active.
Amy's Mom and Dad are retired and live in California. She has 2 brothers and 1 sister. Her sister was also adopted from Korea. We visit her family at least once a year and most of her family has been out to Texas to see us.
Shawn's father passed away when he was 17. His mother lives nearby in Texas. He has 3 brothers and a younger sister. One brother moved to Texas shortly after we did. His sister comes to visit twice a year. He keeps in touch with the rest of his siblings with monthly calls and tries to visit every couple of years.
Church has always been an important part of our lives. It connects us not only to God, but to a large community of loving, caring people. It is where we can talk to others about our struggles without fear of being judged. It is a safe place full of people who we know will love our child at least as much as they love us.
We have joined Amy's family for vacations in Maui, Hawaii. And taken a cruise with Shawn's family to Alaska. As a couple, we have driven up and down the west coast. From San Diego, California to Seattle, Washington. We have also visited many of the big cities and small towns in Texas and Oklahoma. We look forward to a trip to South Korea to see Amy's place of birth.
We deeply respect the amount of love and strength you have for making an adoption plan. We look forward to getting to know you, and enter into what we hope is a lifelong relationship. With Love, Amy & Shawn
