Thank you for taking the time to get to know us! Three years ago, we adopted our sweet daughter Elsie. We are forever grateful for the way her remarkable birthmother entrusted us with her child. Elsie has been our most precious gift! We are unbelievably excited to begin this journey through adoption again!
We have known each other for over 20 years! We initially met in our church youth group, but didn't begin dating until about 5 years later. We developed a close friendship while working together as leaders in the children's program at our church, which led to a dating relationship that lasted for 5 1/2 years. We both had a strong desire to complete high school and college before marrying and beginning our life together. Brian graduated from college in 2003 and proposed shortly after. Rachel graduated in 2006 and we were married that summer.
As newlyweds, we had the usual expectations of fairy dust, royal castles and an enchanted life together. It didn't take long for reality to set in though and for us to realize that life, love, anything worth valuing would take hard work and determination. One of the biggest challenges we've faced in our marriage is the struggle to have a child. Through the pain of disappointment and unfulfilled plans, we've grown closer and have developed a deeper appreciation for family.
This year, we are celebrating our 11th year of marriage together. Five years ago, we built a beautiful new house in the most perfect location. Along the road, we have enjoyed many movie dates, baseball games, yummy dinners out and family game nights. We are still active together in the church where we met so many years ago.
Three years ago, we adopted our precious daughter, Elsie. She is flowers, ice cream, and sunshine. She makes every single day better. We are forever grateful for the way her remarkable birthmother entrusted us with her child.
Our story did not follow the path that we expected, but we are confident that our path is what God had planned for us. We look forward to spending the next years of our life walking along this path with another child.
Brian About His Family:
I was not adopted in the traditional sense, but I was loved and cared for by many different families. These families helped to shape me into the man I am today. At a young age, my mother and father divorced. During the time of transition and change, I was cared for by my dad's parents. They took me and my older sister, Tracy, in at a crucial time for us and continued to support us even after we returned to live with our dad. A few years later, my dad married Carole. Although being newly married and raising two young children was a challenge, Carole embraced being our mother. She and my dad later had my two younger brothers, Kyle and Nathan. I hang out with Kyle and Nathan regularly. We play sports together, play video games together, and get together to talk. Although my sister Tracy lives out of state, we remain close through visits, phone calls and texts. Throughout my life, I was encouraged and taken care of by many of our church families. They invested in my education and my spiritual growth. I was blessed to be loved by so many people!
Rachel About Her Family:
As an only child, I grew up with the full attention of my parents. We went on family vacations, played putt-putt golf together and built underground tunnels in the backyard. My fondest memory with my dad is summertime as a little girl. I would accompany my dad for 5-6 weeks on a road trip to the family farm property in southern Wisconsin. I loved riding around the hills and the forested areas on a John Deere ATV, picking berries from the bushes along the trails, playing near the creek at the bottom of the hill, and watching for deer and other animals on the property. Much of the time I just went along with Dad and helped him with work in the fields and in the barns. My fondest memories with my mom are more recent. My mom has grown into one of my dearest friends. We enjoy girls' dates to the mall, dinners to chat and mini vacations together. I am dearly loved by my parents.
Three years ago, Elsie's birthmother gave us the greatest gift! We cannot imagine our lives without this goofy, sweet, yet fiercely independent little girl. We marvel at the true miracle of adoption.
5 things WE LOVE about Elsie:
SHE SINGS at the top of her lungs (even when she doesn't know the words).
She gives big BEAR HUGS.
She loves to HOLD HANDS with her friends.
She is always up for building a "SPOOkY TUNNEL" (blanket fort).
She loves to SNUGGLE UP with a good book.
Elsie will make THE BEST big sister! She regularly talks about her future baby brother or sister, and how she just can't wait to snuggle and play together!
