For Birth Fathers
The Gladney Center for Adoption offers guidance throughout the adoption process to birth fathers who have made a parenting plan with their child's birth mother.
You just found out your partner is pregnant. How do you feel? Was this something you planned for? Was this the last thing in the world you wanted at this time in your life? Whether you feel happy about the pregnancy or not, there are now big decisions to make. Remember, the best decision is an informed decision.
At first you might feel confused because there are so many different choices to make. However, be glad that there are several options because the more choices there are, the better the chance of finding a solution you will really feel good about.
Are you familiar with all of your alternatives at this point? In case you are not, here are your primary options:
- 1. Marriage
- 2. Single Parenting
- 3. Adoption (open adoption and/or closed adoption)
The very best decision you can make is one that has been well thought out and planned. Making a choice you will be happy with for the rest of your life takes TIME, THOUGHT AND PATIENCE. Please try not to make a quick and impulsive decision regarding the pregnancy. Deciding what to do about the pregnancy is one of the most significant decisions you will ever make.
The more care and effort you put into making an informed choice, the better you will cope with your final decision. Just call 1.800.GLADNEY (800.452.3639), and talk with a counselor. No one will judge you. We're here to listen and to help.
